Costa Rica Environment Minister Lost In the Corcovado Jungle

Environment Minister Carlos Manuel Rodríguez roamed alone through the wilderness of Corcovado National Park, in the country’s Southern Zone, for several days in April after being attacked by a tapir – a mammal almost as large as a cow.

The minister became lost after he separated from the group during a hike with some park rangers and followed a young tapir that looked hurt. He said he became disoriented after being attacked by the animal’s enraged mother. Rodríguez emerged safe and sound three days later at Sirena beach, where rescue workers found him.
