Circuito Moves To Tamarindo This Weekend

WITH hardly a minute to enjoy the spoils that come with winning the open at last month’s Pinilla Classic at Playa Avellanas, which kicked off the 2005-06 Circuito Nacional de Surf, Isaac Vega is prepared to solidify his lead this weekend when the competition moves to nearby Tamarindo, on the northern Pacific coast, for the Vista Villas Trophy.

“I have to take advantage of this opportunity so I can get more points to secure a better ranking,” Vega said. “I have a clear notion of what the climate and conditions are going to be in my hometown of Tamarindo, and though it’s still a long way to the final championships in April, I think I can get the crown one more time.”

Vega’s main challenger, aerial dynamo Luis Vindas from the central Pacific beach town of Jacó, won’t be in the water when the contest gets under way at 6 a.m. tomorrow, as he will be in Puerto Rico for a Latin Pro date, along with his sister Lisbeth – last year’s Women’s champion – and fellow surfer Diego Naranjo. However, organizers expect 200 competitors to register at Tamarindo Vista Villas today, from 5-7 p.m. Registration fees are ¢6,000 ($12) for the Vista Villas Trophy, and ¢6,000 for the year.

Vista Villas’ Crazy Monkey Bar will host a party featuring live music tomorrow night at 9 p.m. in honor of the occasion. For more information on the Circuito Nacional de Surf, call 810-1493.
