Standing Ovations for “Lettice and Lovage”

Every once in a while a play comes along that is so well written, you love it for the words alone. Peter Shaffer’s “Lettice and Lovage” is one of those. Add to that delight the formidable comedic talents of leading lady Ann Antkiw, as Lettice Douffet, and co-star Vicky Longland, as Lotte Schoen, then put it together under the smooth direction of Tom Humes, and you have a winner.

Antkiw and Longland are supported by excellent performances from Dale Watson and Dennis Atkinson, and the cast is rounded off with a group of tourists – including Blanche Brown, making her theatrical debut as a camera-toting tourist, to the delight of all.

“Lettice and Lovage” is a fast-moving comedy that will have audiences laughing all the way through it. The Little Theatre Group production of the play runs two more weekends, with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. matinees on Sundays, at the Blanche Brown Theater in Escazú, west of San José. Call 355-1625 for reservations and directions.
