Canada Day Celebration To Take Place Sunday

The Canadian Club of Costa Rica will hold its annual Canada Day celebration July 1, which marks the northern country’s 140th anniversary.

The celebration will be markedly smaller than in years past – the 150 tickets for the event had sold out by press time – and will be held in La Negra Park in Belén, northwest of San José. The event is relocated and smaller this year because of a lack of volunteers to organize it, Canadian Club President Fred Boden said.

Last year, the celebration was held at the Cervecería Costa Rica in Alajuela, northwest of San José, and before that it was put on for years at Belén’s PedregalPark. Boden said the club had previously been allowed to put on the annual fundraiser event there for free, but it changed locations when the park wanted to charge for the space that year.

For information about the Canadian Club of Costa Rica and its activities, contact Lyn Statten, chairwoman of the club’s Outreach Committee, at 282-1146.
