THIS Sunday, the National Museum in downtown San José will be transformed into a crossroads of the cultures of the world for the Second Annual Multicultural Festival, being held in honor of Cultures Day (Oct. 12).The event will showcase dances, food, artwork and other forms of cultural expression from at least 16 different countries, including Nicaragua, Chile, China, Russia, Turkey, Greece, Canada, Mexico and Israel.Members of the country’s indigenous communities will be on hand to sell handmadejewelry, baskets and masks, while farmers will offer both ornamental plants and homeopathic medicines.In the spirit of cultural exchange, the international student exchange group American Field Service (AFS) will be distributinginformation about living and studying abroad, and recruiting interested students.Short films displaying the different societies of several Latin American nations will also be shown to give festival-goers a look into the lifestyles of neighboring countries.The event will take place on the pedestrian walkway in front of the National Museum starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
