U.S. Citizens Could Qualify for Stimulus Payment

It’s true: The U.S. Government could owe you money. If you are a U.S. citizen, even if you have not filed a tax return for years and have not paid any income tax, you could still qualify for the economic stimulus payment signed into law by former U.S. President George Bush.

There is still time to apply, but many people have not applied for this payment because of fear resulting from not filing a return for years, or thinking that because they have not paid any income tax for years, they do not qualify.

You could qualify even if your income does not normally require you to file a tax return. This is often the case with people living in a foreign county. You may qualify if you have income from any of the following sources:

–Foreign employer (even if your income is as little as $3,000 for the year) –U.S. employer (even if you are the sole stockholder of the company) –Disability pension

–Social Security as a retirement payment or disability

–Pension or retirement plan

–Self-employment

Note: Interest, dividends, capital gains and rental income do not qualify for the stimulus payment.

To apply for the stimulus payment, you must have a valid Social Security number and you must file a 1040 individual income tax return.

If you have filed for your stimulus payment and have not received your check, you will need to contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by phone or letter. It may take months for them to answer, but they will.

Important: The IRS does not communicate by e-mail for any reason. If you have received an e-mail claiming it is from the IRS and you are due a refund, do not respond. This is a scam, and by replying you are putting your identity at risk.
