Authorities Encourage Fuel-Saving Techniques

The National Oil Refinery (RECOPE) has launched a national media campaign to encourage consumers to conserve fuel in light of increasing international gas prices.

The refinery said earlier this month reducing gas consumption is important considering that one barrel of petroleum costs about $74 on the international market.

The campaign was launched with the objective of “promoting the rational use of fuels through efficient practices and preventive vehicle maintenance,” said a statement from RECOPE.

“Efficient driving plus preventive maintenance equals savings,” is the message of the campaign, which and offers simple suggestions for drivers to achieve maximum fuel efficiency.

“Given that the country consumes an average of 45,000 barrels daily of different fuels, any effort to reduce the demand helps everyone and contributes to reducing the national gas bill,” said RECOPE president José León.
