Instituto Británico Affiliates With International House

A San José language school has become the first school in Costa Rica to join the prestigious International House language school network. The Instituto Británico will now market itself as International House Costa Rica, though it will also keep its original name.

Affiliation means the school now has access to the teaching materials and qualified teachers that circulate among International House’s 145 affiliated schools. It also means Instituto Británico meets the strict quality standards that International House applies to its members.

The Instituto Británico has more than 1,000 students at any given moment learning both English and Spanish, according to school director Marcy Devine. Classes are taught at the school’s headquarters in the eastern San José suburb of Los Yoses, in an annex space on Paseo Colón and on-site at different companies.

The school was founded in 1984. It is the only English school in Costa Rica certified to offer Cambridge University English certification and teacher training courses, as well as the only school whose Spanish program is affiliated with the Instituto Cervantes.

International House is a British organization founded in Spain in 1953. Affiliated schools are located in 52 countries, and International House schools teach a combined 25 languages in addition to English.
