Mall Multiplaza del Este to add 80 more stores

Mall Multiplaza del Este, located east of San José, will be expanded by some 53,000 square meters, with an additional 80 new stores, including a Simán department store, and two floors of parking.

Work began this month and will be performed in two stages. The first includes the construction of a two-story tower to add 1,100 parking spaces and a department store, behind PriceSmart supermarket. The next phase will add more area for the stores.

Grupo Roble, owners of Multiplaza, expect construction to be completed by 90 percent by the end of 2013, and the inauguration is planned for May 2014.

Workers also will renovate the existing building, which currently houses 130 stores, food court areas and a cinema complex.

Grupo Roble, a Salvadoran group, opened Multiplaza del Este in 2003 and also owns Mall Multiplaza Escazú, southwest of San José.
