Costa Rican exports increased by 7.2 percent in January

Costa Rica’s export figures in January totaled $878 million, which represents an increase of 7.2 percent in the last 12 months, the Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER) reported on Wednesday.

In a press release, PROCOMER said that “North America maintains its position as the main destination in the region for national exports, with 41.2 percent ($361.6 million), followed by the European Union with 17.3 percent ($151.5 million), Asia with 15.7 percent ($138.1 million), and Central America with 15.2 percent ($133.3 million).”

Microprocessor components remain the main export product, followed by pineapples, bananas, medical components and coffee, the report stated.

The amount of exports from Costa Rica totaled $ 16.8 billion in 2012, an increase of 8.9 percent over the previous year, according to PROCOMER.
