Tourism Photo Contest Offers Cash Prizes

Amateur and professional shutterbugs, both foreign and national, take note: The Costa Rican Association of Tourism Professionals (ACOPROT) is offering two $1,000 prizes for photos snapped in Costa Rica this high season.

The prizes – to be offered in amateur and professional categories – will go to the best photographs illustrating the subjects of water resources, nature and conservation, and poverty reduction through tourism. Submissions must be printed in 5×7- inch format with a pseudonym written on the back of each photograph.

Included in the application should be a CD containing the images in JPEG format at a resolution no lower than 300 dpi, plus an application sheet that includes the following: name of photographer, ID or passport number, address, telephone number, e-mail, titles of the photographs, pseudonym and category in which the applicant would like to compete.

Those competing in the professional category must include a short review of their professional experience.

The contest allows a maximum of three submissions. Each photo should also include a short description of its motive, including the place where it was taken. Photos may not be altered and must be taken in Costa Rica.

The sealed application packets can be submitted to the association’s offices (Los Yoses, San Pedro, final de avenida 10, calle 47) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. before Feb. 1.

For more information, call ACOPROT at 280-5375.
