Flamingo Realtor Mourned

NINE-YEAR Playa Flamingo residentDeborah Marquand died March 27,Easter Sunday, falling victim to cancer.She was 56.Deborah was a popular real estateagent, with her husband Jon, at EmeraldShores Realty in Flamingo, a coastal communityin the northwest province ofGuanacaste.The couple came to Costa Rica in 1995from Reno, Nevada. Deborah immersedherself in her new community, participatingin the Flamingo Association and becomingactive in the Beach Community Church.“She felt the same way I do about CostaRica. It is a beautiful country, but you canfind beauty in many places in the world.The thing that makes Costa Rica truly beautifulis the people,” Jon said.Deborah also loved birds, particularlyher four pet birds, as well as her two catsand dog.Deborah was born in Chicago on Sept.24, 1948. She was raised in Chicago andLaguna Beach, California, before sheattended AuClair College in Wisconsin,where she met Jon.Although a young Jon proposed toDeborah when he was 19, the couple partedways when they graduated and did notmeet again until 16 years later, when theyran into each other in an airport in LasVegas, Nevada. They married in 1998.Before becoming a real estate agent,Deborah was a special education teacherfor 22 years.She is survived by Jon and her sistersBrea in Maryland and Lynn in Georgia.A service was held for DeborahTuesday at the Beach Community Church.
