Fundraiser Nets $6,000 for Southern Conservation

Between bottles of fine Californian wine and a five-course gourmet meal, those who attended a Nov. 17 fundraiser dinner at the Club Union in downtown San José raised $6,000 for conservation in Costa Rica’s jewel of biodiversity – the Osa Peninsula, on the southern Pacific coast.

The money raised will go toward efforts by the Osa Campaign and the Corcovado Foundation to raise $10 million by the end of 2007 to create an endowment fund. The interest accrued from the fund would be used to finance public and private conservation efforts on the OsaPeninsula. The campaign has raised about $1 million so far. The Costa Rica-United States of America Foundation (CR-USA), which is overseeing the project, has promised to match the first $3 million raised (TT, Nov. 3).

Donations to the campaign can be made in Costa Rica by contacting the Osa Campaign offices at 234-3360 or by depositing money at the Banco de Costa Rica, account # 93-0 (colones) or #94-9 (dollars). Tax-deductible donations can also be made in the United States to Amigos of Costa Rica, 1776 I Street NW #900 Washington, D.C.20006.
