500 Kilos of Cocaine Found in Squash Truck

Drug Control Police on Saturday confiscated 500 kilograms of cocaine they found in a truck carrying squash near the southern Pacific port city of Golfito, according to Public Security Ministry spokesman Oscar Abrahams.

Police were inspecting the truck at a checkpoint at Río Claro de Golfito, 50 kilometers from the Panama border, Abrahams said, when they discovered a hidden compartment in the back. Upon opening it, police found 500 kilograms of cocaine distributed in packets of 10-20 kilograms each.

The driver, Orlando Fallas, 30, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking.
