U.S. Consulate Announces Changes

In the interest of providing faster service to the public, the U.S. Embassy’s Consular Section has announced some changes in the times and procedures for its notary-related services and Consular Report of Birth Abroad interviews.

Document notarization and authentication services will now be available Monday,Wednesday and Friday from 1-2:30 p.m., with notarials ready to pick up the same day and authentications the next business day, according to a statement from the embassy.

U.S. citizens seeking a Consular Report of Birth Abroad for their children can pick up and drop off forms any weekday morning, or download them from the embassy’s Web site, sanjose.usembassy.gov.

However, once the completed forms are dropped off, applicants will now be assigned an interview date and time, and must return to the embassy with the child for the interview.

According to the statement, this change will allow embassy staff to begin data entry before the interview, reducing wait time for families with young children.
