New Calling Cards Benefit Orphanage

A special batch of calling cards launched recently in honor of International Children’s Day lets users contribute to a cause as they dial.

These ¢500 (about $1) cards made by the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE), were designed to benefit the San José Orphanage, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, according to a statement released by ICE Sept. 6.

For every card sold, ¢100 ($0.19) goes to the orphanage. Users will have ¢400 ($0.78) remaining to make calls.

About 300,000 of the cards will be sold at distributors around the country throughout the month of September.
