Police Seize Stolen ICE Cable

National Police seized ¢3 million ($5,813) worth of electrical cable belonging to the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) Sunday from a home in the southern suburb of Desamparados and arrested two men accused of stealing it, according to a statement from the Public Security Ministry.

Late last week, ICE officials alerted police that the cable had been stolen from a tower near Ciudad Colón, southwest of San José.

Construction workers Sunday told police they saw the two suspects hauling the cable away in a Datsun truck. The vehicle was stopped by police in Ciudad Colón, but the drivers fled to nearby Santa Ana, where they were finally detained.

The two men arrested, identified by the last names Rodríguez and Mora, were carrying a 22-caliber weapon and a quarter pound of marijuana. They face charges before the Prosecutor’s Office.
