Dangerous ocean currents on Costa Rican Pacific today

UPDATE (8:45 a.m.): While the National Emergency Commission hasn’t canceled the alert, Costa Rica’s National Tsunami Monitoring Service (SINAMOT) says “the possibility of dangerous currents is ruled out” as of about 8 a.m. Friday.
SINAMOT indicates a small tsunami of less than 10 cm in height was registered on Cocos Island and Quepos on Friday morning.

Below is the 2 a.m. alert from the National Emergency Commission (CNE) of Costa Rica:
Based on the information issued by UNA’s SINAMOT, the CNE reports that dangerous currents are expected from 4:00 a.m., especially in canals, river mouths and estuaries along the national Pacific coast.
For this reason, it is recommended to suspend water activities, especially in the western part of the Osa Peninsula (Drake, Colorada, mouth of Térraba and Isla del Caño).
Fishing boats are requested not to go out or if they are on the high seas, to stay at a depth of 100 meters or 300 feet.
Suspension of water activities, artisanal fishing, water sports or others is recommended.
There is no risk to the coastal population. However, people are advised to withdraw from the beaches along the Pacific coast.
This alert of strong currents is presented as a result of the Mw 8.1 earthquake that occurred in the Kermadec Islands at 1:28 pm. yesterday, Costa Rica time.
