JetBlue inaugurates new non-stop route from New York to Costa Rica

Juan Santamaría International Airport near San José received Friday night the inaugural arrival of JetBlue’s expanded service to Costa Rica.

As of Nov. 1, the United States-based low-cost carrier flies between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO).

It’s JetBlue’s first non-stop offering to the San José area from the northeastern United States. The airline also flies here from the Florida cities of Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.

JetBlue also offers nonstop service between New York-JFK and Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia.

JetBlue’s new flight operates thrice weekly using an Airbus A320-series airplane:

  • Departing JFK at 6:30 p.m., arriving in the San José area at 10:50 p.m.
  • Departing SJO at 11:59 p.m., arriving in New York City at 6:09 a.m.

According to Tourism Minister Maria Amalia Revelo, the new route adds annual capacity for 23,400 visitors to Costa Rica from the United States.

United Airlines also offers direct New York-Costa Rica service from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

Later this month, American Airlines will launch direct flights to San José from New York City.
