Texas Tech-Costa Rica launches retail management major

Beginning in August 2019, Texas Tech University-Costa Rica (TTU-CR) will offer a Retail Management program, the school announced.

The program will help prepare students for opportunities across the retail spectrum with additional focus on research-based and leadership courses.

“There has never been a better time to enter our career in Retail Management, and there is no better place to do it than TTU-CR,” said Robert Jones, the university’s president of Retail and Hospitality. “Retail is reinventing itself from mechanical processes to the online and omnichannel world.

“While the economy and the tourism industry continue to grow in Costa Rica, so will retail and the careers associated with it.”

Students can also take technology and data-analysis classes, and they will have the opportunity to achieve certifications in JDA, SAP and Excel, among others.

Texas Tech, which has its main campus in Lubbock, Texas, opened its Costa Rican satellite in 2018.

The university chose Costa Rica for international expansion because the country serves as a gateway to Latin America and is home to a number of multinational companies.
