Breast cancer awareness races into San José

On Oct. 2, hundreds of runners will meet at the National Stadium in San José for the third annual Corre por mí breast cancer run and walk. The event is part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a global effort that seeks to raise money and awareness for the No. 1 cause of cancer deaths in women worldwide.

This year’s race will benefit Anasovi and Fundacancer, organizations that work to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families by funding education and support initiatives. Last year’s race raised more than $55,000 for the Dr. Anna Gabriela Ross Foundation to implement a patient navigation program at San Juan de Dios Hospital.

The race will include an 8K and 4K run as well as a 2K walk. Registration for the 8K and 4K costs ₡6,000 ($12) and includes a T-shirt, medal, race number, snacks and promotions from sponsors. Runners may register until the day before the race. Participation in the 2K is free and does not require registration. The race is set to start at 9 a.m., and the event will include a family fair with music, raffles and activities for kids.
