PHOTOS: Costa Rica’s political dogs on Election Day

Costa Ricans voted in droves during yesterday’s presidential elections. A total of 67.03 percent of the electorate turned out to vote, the first time that turnout has increased for a second round election. But voters weren’t the only ones that showed up to the polls.

A World Animal Protection study estimates that half of Costa Rica’s households have a dog, and several of the country’s canines turned up with their owners yesterday. While none of the dogs were of voting age or species, they still flew their political colors while their owners voted for Costa Rica’s next president.
