Justice Minister Hernando París will retire May 15, a date he agreed upon with President Laura Chinchilla when she took office in May 2010.
París was one of three members of Chinchilla’s Cabinet maintained from the previous Oscar Arias administration. The other two are Education Minister Leonardo Garnier and former Health Minister María Luisa Avila.
París will be the third Cabinet member to give up his position in the government since the beginning of April. He joins ex-Finance Minister Fernando Herrero and ex-Public Works and Transport Minister Francisco Jiménez in exiting the administration. Herrero and Jiménez both resigned due to corruption scandals.
