National holiday set for Monday

The Labor Ministry will move Friday’s national holiday, Cultures Day, to next Monday, Oct. 15.

This is the last national holiday of the year before Christmas.

The reason for the change is to give residents a long weekend. The logic seems to assume most people do not work Friday anyway.

Those working Monday will receive double pay.

Special discounts on hotels, one-day tours and free extra activities are some of the incentives offered by Costa Rican tourism companies for the upcoming long holiday weekend.

On its website, the National Tourism Chamber is offering a series of deals, including low rates on accommodation in beach and mountain hotels, special prices on outdoor activities such as canopy tours, rafting and safaris, among others. Promotions are available on the website: www.canatur.org.
