Costa Rica to begin testing 4G mobile network in July

The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE)  in July will start the first tests in the country for a fourth generation mobile phone network (4G).

ICE will select some of its customers to evaluate the performance of the network and submit feeback to ICE’s technical staff, ICE Executive President Teófilo de la Torre said.

Selected users for testing the network will be chosen according to two criteria: constant use of mobile Internet and the availability to provide frequent feedback to ICE.

After the testing plan is completed, ICE engineers will make technical adjustments before the commercial launch of the service, scheduled for next year.

The 4G network allows Internet speed access up to 10 times faster than those offered by the current 3G network.
