New cop cars a gift from China

Public Security Minister Mario Zamora and Chinese Ambassador to Costa Rica Li Changhua were in the Pacific port of Caldera on Friday morning to welcome the arrival of 200 new police vehicles donated by the Chinese government. China also donated 250 police vehicles to Costa Rica in 2008.

“It is an honor to contribute this new donation,” Changhua said. “The crime rate in Costa Rica has been controlled and is lowering, which is a reflection of the previous donation of 250 patrol cars. We are convinced that our efforts are assisting the Public Security Ministry’s efforts.”

Zamora has stated on several occasions that the ministry’s goal for 2012 is to increase the amount of national patrol vehicles to improve police mobilization and response time.
