Venezuela Beats USA to Win First World Baseball Classic Title

Venezuela beat the United States 3-2 on Tuesday night to win its first World Baseball Classic title, pulling ahead in the ninth inning after Team USA had tied the game late. The championship game was played at loanDepot park in Miami.

The winning run came after Javier Sanoja moved into scoring position and Eugenio Suárez drove him in with a go-ahead double in the top of the ninth. Daniel Palencia then closed out the game in the bottom half, finishing off a Venezuelan victory built on strong pitching and timely hitting.

Venezuela had taken a 2-0 lead before the Americans answered in the eighth inning, when Bryce Harper hit a two-run home run to tie the score and briefly shift momentum toward Team USA. Venezuela responded immediately, refusing to let the game slip away.

The win marked a major moment for Venezuelan baseball. It was the country’s first World Baseball Classic championship and capped a run through a tournament field stacked with major league talent. Maikel García was named the tournament’s most valuable player after helping lead Venezuela’s offense throughout the event.

For the United States, the loss was another missed chance to reclaim the title after bringing one of the tournament’s most star-filled rosters to Miami. Team USA managed only a handful of hits in the final and could not produce enough offense against Venezuela’s pitching staff.

The result also carried wider resonance across Latin America, where the World Baseball Classic continues to draw intense interest. Venezuela’s title adds another regional champion to the event and stands as one of the country’s biggest modern sports achievements. In Venezuela, officials declared a national holiday as celebrations spread after the final out.
