Apple Sports Launches in Costa Rica as App Reaches 80 Countries Worldwide

Apple Sports is now available in Costa Rica after Apple expanded the iPhone app into 36 additional countries and territories across Latin America and the Caribbean, bringing total availability to 80 markets worldwide.

The free app, built around real-time scoreboards, offers live scores, stats, standings, and upcoming games across a growing list of leagues and competitions. Apple’s rollout began in February 2024 in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, followed by expansions into parts of Europe and Mexico before this latest push into the region.

For users in Costa Rica, the update is aimed squarely at fútbol fans. Apple Sports now supports six Latin American men’s leagues: Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (Brazil), Categoría Primera A (Colombia), Liga de Primera, Liga Pro (Ecuador), Liga Profesional de Fútbol (Argentina), and Primera División del Perú.

To make soccer coverage easier to find, Apple added a new Soccer category inside the app’s Search section, grouping all available soccer leagues in one place. Apple is also leaning on iPhone and Apple Watch features that have helped the app stand out in earlier markets, including Live Activities that place ongoing scores on the lock screen, plus home screen widgets for quick glances at favorites.

The expansion adds Costa Rica to a list of newly supported markets that includes much of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. For Apple, it is another step toward turning the Sports app into a default scoreboard for iPhone users, especially in regions where soccer is the daily sport and where local leagues drive attention as much as the European giants.
