USWNT remains excellent, defeats Costa Rica to win Group A

Stop the press — because Costa Rica couldn’t.

Behind two goals from Christen Press, the United States women’s national soccer team defeated Costa Rica, 6-0, on Monday night.

With the result, the North Americans have won Group A of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Despite the result, La Sele finished in second place and also earned a spot in the semifinals.

The tournament’s two finalists will qualify to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Press scored twice in the first 40 minutes as the North Americans opened up a 3-0 lead before halftime. The first goal, in the fourth minute, was a true golazo.

Press’ second wasn’t too shabby, either.

The United States is undefeated against Costa Rica, with a 16-0-0 record all-time.
