Costa Rica Waterfall Cascada Verde is Mother Nature’s Waterslide

UVITA, Puntarenas — Visiting waterfalls never gets old, and Uvita’s Cascada Verde has six big points in its favor.

One, it’s very easy to get to.

Two, it’s cheap — 1,000 colones to get in.

Three, its pool is swimmable (and there’s another one downstream).

Four, there are shallow ponds next to it that a toddler can splash in safely.

Five, it’s big enough to be beautiful but small enough that you can jump off the top, if you dare.

And six, the water has sculpted a channel in the cliff face that makes a bumpy but crazy-fun waterslide — again, if you dare.

And even if you don’t dare, it’s fun to watch other people do it. When I visited on Sunday, I found both babies and daredevils enjoying themselves at this beautiful spot.

IF YOU GO

Getting there: From the main highway in the center of Uvita, turn onto the street next to the Banco de Costa Rica, heading northeast. After a few hundred meters, go left at the arrow pointing to lodging at Cascada Verde. (Don’t be deceived by the arrow to the “Waterfall” that appears to be pointing straight; go left and you’re a minute away.)
