Guanacaste’s cowboy culture comes alive in this video

One of our readers, Svεnska, has shared this beautiful video with us. She’s a French video director  based in Tamarindo, and about this video she writes:

“Initially from Spain, inspired by medieval jousts, La Carrera de Cintas is a traditional event in Costa Rica, and especially Guanacaste, the province renowned for its “cowboy” (sabanera) identity & culture.

The goal of this equestrian game is to catch the ribbon (cinta) positioned on a rope tightened at about three meters from the ground by introducing a spike into the ring of this ribbon. The participant who obtains more ribbons is the winner.

This film was shot during Carrera de Cintas that took place last December, 21st 2014, in the gorgeous village of Playa Junquillal, Costa Rica.”

Take a look and check out one of Costa Rica’s lesser-known traditions. Enjoy.
