Heavy rains, thunderstorms forecast in Costa Rica for Monday night

The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) is predicting heavy rains and thunderstorms Monday afternoon and night throughout most of the country. Only the Caribbean coast is expected to stay relatively dry in the early part of this week.

According to a release from the IMN, the forecast calls for close to 70 millimeters of rain in most of the country. The Caribbean could see 40 millimeters of rain at a maximum, the IMN says.

The IMN warns residents to beware of floods and landslides. Heavy rains Sunday night led to flooding in parts of San José. The forecast also mentions the possibility of strong winds and hail. Fog could also affect road conditions.
