Arenal to Host Ultimate Frisbee Tourney

The Volcanic Tournament 2008, a 90- player ultimate Frisbee event, will be held July 4 to 8 at the foot of Arenal Volcano, in north-central Costa Rica.

Players from the United States and Panama have already signed up to compete against the Costa Rican competitors.

“We’ve been playing ultimate Frisbee in Costa Rica for 10 years,” said Federico Chacón, a tournament co-ordinator. “We’ve been talking about holding a tournament for years, and we had one last year with a Panamanian group. After that, we thought about doing something on a larger scale.”

The event will also bring the players together for a day of rain-forest hiking, a hot springs visit and a night of partying at a local disco. Registration costs $375, excluding airfare.

Chacón and his brother Carlos, who is co-organizing the event from the United States, hope the event becomes a yearly one.
