CHRISTMAS WITH THE STARS

Superstar couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie(right) used the international attention they inevitably command to cast new light on the plight of Colombian refugees in Costa Rica Dec. 25. The actors visited San José on Christmas Day to hand out gifts, talk with government officials, and meet with some of the estimated 10,500 Colombians who’ve fled to Costa Rica because of civil conflict in their country. Jolie, a Goodwill Ambassador for the U.N.High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), called the conflict “the biggest humanitarian tragedy in the Western hemisphere” and praised this country’s government and people for receiving refugees. She and Pitt, along with their three children, also spent time at the Four Seasons beach resort in the northwestern province of Guanacaste.
