Authorities Approve Reduction in Gas Prices

THE Costa Rican Public ServicesRegulatory Authority (ARESEP) lastweek approved a 9.1% reduction inthe price of each liter of super gasolineand a 5.8% decrease in regular gasoline.The price changes took effectWednesday.A liter of super gasoline will dropfrom ¢504 ($1.02) to ¢458 ($0.93) and regular gasoline will drop from ¢463($0.94) to ¢436 ($0.89).ARESEP officials said the reduction,requested Oct. 31 by the National OilRefinery (RECOPE), is the result of adrop in international petroleum prices thattook place Oct. 14-28.The new prices counteract a 5.7%increase that took effect at the beginningof the month (TT, Oct. 28).
