House arrest plea for teenager that killed principal

The legal defense team of the 17-year-old student who killed his high school principal asked Wednesday that his 15-year prison sentence be reduced to a sentence of house arrest.

The student, who was convicted of the murder of his 49-year old high school principal Nancy María Chaverri in July, received a maximum prison sentence of 15 years in November. On July 1, the student entered Chaverri’s office at the Montebello High School in Heredia and shot her in the head.

The legal representative of the Chaverri family opposed the motion to have the sentence reduced.
