Public health agency required to implement digital records

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court (Sala IV) on Monday ordered the Social Security System, or Caja, to fully implement the “Unified Digital Health Records” (EDUS) program across the country.

The ruling followed an appeal by a patient who missed two appointments because his file was lost and was not replaced by the Caja.

The Sala IV stated that the EDUS program is crucial to improving health services. “The progressive extension of the Unified Digital Health Records program facilitates proper patient care and service,”  Sala IV judges noted in their ruling.

In 2008, a bill before the Legislative Assembly entered a first round of debate, but was returned for discussion in commission, where it is today.
