Original story continues here:

Volcanologists from the University of Costa Rica and the National University confirmed a new ash, vapor and gas explosion of Turrialba Volcano at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday.

The fumarole spewed materials for about 24 minutes and reached some 500 meters (1,640 feet) above the crater’s summit, located some 67 kilometers northeast of the capital San José.

A series of volcanic tremors in the surroundings of Turrialba canton followed the explosion, said Raúl Mora, a volcanologist with the National University’s National Seismological Network, who was at Turrialba at the time.

Mora said the explosion had a greater magnitude than those recorded last weekend.

Reports on the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica’s Facebook page stated ashes were visible on roofs, windows and cars as far as the provinces of San José and Heredia.
