Chinchilla asks for quick investigation of alleged corruption along border

President Laura Chinchilla on Wednesday met with Chief Prosecutor Jorge Chavarría and urged him to expedite an investigation into alleged corruption by officials linked to the construction of a new road along the San Juan River, the border with Nicaragua.

On Friday, Chinchilla asked Public Works and Transport Minister Francisco Jiménez to step down, and two National Roadway Council officials were removed from their posts, following bribery accusations.

Chinchilla emphasized that “this and any other act of corruption will be dealt with severity. We will not rest until our goal is met, we will finish this road and we’ll take this case investigation to the bitter end.”
