Chinchilla Flies to Colombia Today

President Laura Chinchilla is scheduled to fly to Colombia today to participate in the 12th Tuxtla Summit of the Central American Integration System.

At least six heads of states have confirmed their presence, including Mexican President Felipe Calderón and Honduran President Porfirio “Pepe” Lobo, whose legitimacy as president, is still under question by some. Only Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Dominican President Leonel Fernández have not RSVPed.

Top agenda items are expected to include climate change and security.

It’s the first time a Tuxtla summit will be held in South America, after Colombia was approved as a full member during the last conference, which was held Costa Rica’s JW Marriott Resort in Guanacaste.

Chinchilla is booked to fly to Colombia on the 10:45 a.m. LACSA flight from Juan Santamaría. She will stay at the Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa in Cartagena de Indias. She’ll return on Tuesday night.
