Common Regional Fishing Law Proposed

SAN SALVADOR – CentralAmerican environmentalists and governmentrepresentatives are showing supportthis week for El Salvador’s proposal todevelop a common Central AmericanMaritime Law to protect the region’s fishingand maritime resources, according toa press release.The initiative was presentedWednesday by José Emilio Saudi, ElSalvador’s vice-minister of agriculture,during a Central American forum to analyzethe region’s water resources.Saudi said he hopes Central Americanlegislatures will adopt the common fishinglaw during the first semester of nextyear.To assure sustainability, the new lawwould aim to regulate all types of commercialand recreational fishing in CentralAmerica, according to the press release bythe Central American Integration System.
