MEXICO CITY – The foreign ministers of Costa Rica, Guatemala,Honduras and Nicaragua on May 19 established a position of solidarity with Mexico against efforts by the United States to build a wall along its southern border and send 6,000 National Guard troops to protect the frontier from “illegal aliens.”

The shared concern between Central  America and Mexico was expressed in a joint lettersent to the U.S. government, requesting an “integral immigration reform” policy.

Speaking on behalf of his Central American counterparts, Guatemalan Foreign Minister Jorge Briz urged the United States to implement a “temporary-worker program” to normalize the migratory status of the millions of Latin America migrants living there.
