Gunmen Attack Clinic in Honduras, Kill 2

TEGUCIGALPA – Two people were killed and five others wounded by gunmen inside a private clinic in the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula, police said Sunday.

Patient Edwin Salvador, 35, and his brother-in-law, Ronald Edgard Martínez, 32, who was visiting him, were killed by six gunmen Saturday at the private clinic in the Medina neighborhood of San Pedro Sula.

The gunmen wounded five other people, including Salvador’s bodyguards and several relatives. Salvador had been wounded in a shooting last week in front of his house in the Cabañas section of San Pedro Sula in which his 11-year-old son and 69-year-old father were also hit.

His father and son were also recovering from their wounds at the clinic, and the motive for the shootings has not been cleared up. Police said the shootings appeared to be a settling of scores with López.

Honduras is dealing with a wave of violence that has left more than 400 people dead this year.
