Major medical tourism summit nears

From the print edition

The Costa Rican Tourism Board held a press conference Wednesday introducing this year’s Medical Travel International Business Summit, which will take place April 23-25 in the western San José suburb of Escazú.

The annual medical tourism fair, one of the largest in Latin America, will include representatives from 13 countries and some 200 companies. Medical tourism brought in approximately $100 million to Costa Rica last year, according to the Council for International Promotion of Costa Rica Medicine.

Forums at the event will discuss insurance issues, attracting clients from the U.S. and medical safety. Doctors, medical tourism facilitators and travel agencies will be among the representatives at the summit.
