Coffee Exports up 52% From Last Year

MANAGUA – Nicaraguan coffee exports grew 52.2% during the first five months of the 2007-08 harvest compared to the same time period last year, according to the government’s ExportProcessingCenter (Cetrex).

Cetrex reports that Nicaragua has exported $78.1 million in coffee during the first five months of the harvest, compared to $51.3 million last year.

The price of coffee has also increased to an average of $126.8 per quintal, compared to $110.1 last year.

This year’s coffee harvest, the country’s top export product, is calculated to yield $212 million.
