UNESCO Commission Studies World Patrimony Sites

Eight hundred international experts in historical patrimony are gathered in Quebec, Canada, this month for the 32nd meeting of the UNESCO World Patrimony Commission. The U.N. commission’s job is to study areas nominated to be named world heritage treasures.

In Nicaragua, the Cathedral in León and the colonial downtown of Granada are on the list of nominees for world patrimony sites under consideration by the UNESCO team of experts.

Granada is the oldest continuous mainland colonial city in the Americas, while the Cathedral in León is the largest in all of Central America.
