The Year of the Pig

“To know the road ahead, know those coming back,” reads an old Chinese proverb, to give us some eastern wisdom to bring in the year of the pig, which begins Feb. 18 by the Chinese lunar calendar.

The Chinese zodiac works on a 12-year cycle, so if you were born in 2007, 1995, 1983, 1971, 1959, 1947 or so on, you are a pig – which is a pretty good thing in Chinese astrology. According to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, pig people are known for being honest, straightforward and patient. They are often modest and shy, preferring to work behind the scenes. As good listeners and great supporters, they’re great to have around, and make excellent partners.

According to the Web site www.chineseastrology.com, this year pigs should focus on making finishing touches, tying up loose ends and completing lingering projects. They should be on the alert for lost or stolen items and be sure to maintain honesty in personal relationships and business. This year, the enlightened ones will continue on their path of understanding and contentment, while the spiritually empty will fall further from themselves. Take a stand and speak your mind. Pace yourself, slow down if you need to and don’t feel pressured to continue at breakneck speed. Relax, and involve yourself in activities to calm your nerves. Try yoga or meditation to soothe your body and connect with your inner self. Dig your hands into the soil of the earth, run your fingers through the mane of a horse, feel the living elements of the Earth.
