Alajuela Woods to Host 2006 Mundoloco Festival

The 2006 Mundoloco Festival will feature 12 hours of world music in the woods of Alajuela, northwest of San José. The event is scheduled to take place April 8 at the Jaulares Amphitheater, three kilometers from the Fraijanes lagoon on the road to Poás Volcano.

Organizers point to the river setting, flora and fauna and artisan market as highlights of the event, in addition to the range of music: Celtic-style offerings by Peregrino Gris; new jazz by Amarillo Cian y Magenta, Federico Miranda and Baula Project; the multicultural sound of Amounsulu; experimental electro-acoustic by Electrodoméstico; Middle Eastern tunes by Arábica; electro-ethnic fusion by Santos y Zurdo; and a percussion overload by Ensamble Étnico with DJ Tekes and Dr. Leo.

This year, Mundoloco has joined forces with Putumayo World Music to bring special guests Brazilian DJ Wagner Pá and Brazuca Matraca to the festival. A Putumayo stand will offer the world-music label’s CDs for sale.

Food and beverages and camping space will be available. Tickets are on sale at Librería Internacional outlets for ¢3,000 ($6). For more information, call Mundoloco Producciones at 394-4164 or 289-3945, or Jaulares at 482-2155.
