Georgian National Ballet To Perform in San José

The Georgian National Ballet will be leaping onto the stage at San José’s Melico Salazar Theater May 10 and 11.

The renowned ballet company, founded in 1945 by Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili, has performed for more than 50 million people in some 90 countries around the world. The group is currently touring in Central America, giving shows in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua as well as Costa Rica.

“The show has been incredibly well received,” said Cecilia Chavarría, spokeswoman for event promoter Interamericana de Producciones. “They have even added extra shows in Mexico and the theaters have been sold out.”

The show, which will feature more than 40 dancers in addition to musicians, will incorporate several different dances “as a demonstration of Georgian culture,” Chavarría said.

Performances are set for 8 p.m.May 10 and 5 p.m.May 11. Tickets range from ¢7,000 to ¢30,000 ($14 to $60) and can be bought at 2207-2025, selected Servimás outlets and Bansbach stores, or online at www.mundoticket.com. Note that the Web site charges an additional ¢1,000 ($2) in service.
