Plácido Domingo to Serenade Ticos in November

The celebrated voice of Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo will be heard in Costa Rica for the first time Nov. 14, at the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium in the northern San José district of Tibás.

The announcement was made last week by the renowned artist’s son and representative, Alvaro Domingo, who was in the country to formalize concert arrangements.

Some 20,000 tickets will be made available for purchase online and at Auto Mercado stores and BAC San José bank branches, according to the daily La Nación. Ticket prices and sale dates have not yet been defined.

Domingo will be accompanied by three sopranos, including Puerto Rican Ana Martínez, and a 65-member orchestra made up of national and foreign musicians directed by U.S. conductor Eugene Kohn, La Nación reported.

Admired for his versatility, musicality and acting ability, the 67-year-old artist boasts 126 roles in his official repertoire. He has performed in numerous opera films as well as on the popular TV programs “The Cosby Show” and “The Simpsons,” and is the recipient of nine Grammy awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
